One thing you learn from reading the academic literature on parental estrangement is that it's rarely *just* about events from childhood. Most adults are willing to reconcile with their problematic parents as long as they can acknowledge their mistakes and own up to them. A lot of them refuse.

"free speech" is a captured term, no longer about freedom or speech. it's the silencing of all voices but those that uphold white male xtian power, the freeing of noxious hate speech. the right captured the language of civil rights/ first amendment to free hate and silence everything else.

Isn't this the opposite of what they decided on voting rights as well? If Republicans can find a race neutral way to gerrymander minority representation away then it's OK but race neutral admissions are bad if they lead to minorities getting in.

Also, hot take: if either of my children ever feel the need to cut me out of their lives, I will be hurt, but I only want the best for them. If they decide that they flourish better without me, then that's the way it will be. I want them to fly, with or without me.
