my grandad, who has lived off rice crispies for the last year, has asked me to get him ‘what the chinese eat’ from the shop. i’ve got him a microwave meal and i know he’s gonna hate it and complain about it, but sometimes you have to let the event happen

My parents were staunchly opposed to it when I grew up and I remember being annoyed that other kids in my class would get money for getting worse grades than me. As an adult I'm very glad they did that because it gave me the intrinsic motivation to get my masters degree without expecting a prize.
