$2,000,0000 spread over a 40 year career (I’m trying to be charitable) is only 50k/year. At which point 30k is um. A lot. And of course that only gets worse the longer you stretch out the earning time!

He seems to be basing his assertion on his understanding of permanent income theory, where 30k wouldn’t be significant enough to permanently disrupt someone’s consumption patterns. Which isn’t what most people are talking about when they talk about a life changing amount of money
