But the point is many of these folk are self-professed feminists but they are more willing to forgive someone if they believe her to be a man engaging in gleeful unrestrained sadism than if they perceive her to be a trans woman coping badly with what she perceives to be the rules of staying alive

Like not gonna lie, I do think "person is bigoted toward group X because person is secretly of group X and has to hate themselves to avoid the absolutely ferocious punishment society will exact on them if they're found out" is more sympathetic than "sadist hurts people for fun"

Like a lot of these people were happy to regard Jax as a woobiefied poor little meow meow despite all the bullying and queerphobia and textual misogyny right up they found out she was a gay ass tranny. And they know this should make it more sympathetic but they want it to make it worse

Also they're extra mad because they know their baseline anger foregrounds their transmisogyny in a way that makes it really hard to overlook or ignore, that makes it uncomfortably noticeable even for people who if it were slightly more subtle would have been happy to overlook it
