I don't talk about it much, but it really is psychically damaging to receive the incredible amount of harassment that comes with transitioning publically. I really don't like being the object of others' vast cruelty and it is exhausting keeping up the composure to not descend into cruelty myself.

So, for example, I might interrupt my painting schedule midday to spend a couple hours drawing a mini in a manga style instead of "powering through." And the net result is more energy for painting. I've come to understand that this is more restful for me than conventional ideas of taking a break.
