My favorite paleontology-specific spellcheck change was for "taphonomy," for which MS Word suggested "taproom." Which although not correct, it is admittedly paleontology adjacent. (cc: @uglyfossils.bsky.social)

I was invited to review this week by a journal that had helpfully embedded an LLM bot *inside* its reviewer interface. Being a tester of things LLM, I asked the bot to do what the journal suggested I ask it to do, which was to summarize the paper’s key claims for me. It could not. Not even slightly.
