I grew up low-church non-denominational, so I had no knowledge of the Council of Nicaea until I was a young adult. But if I could go back knowing what I know now, this would definitely be an option.

True. But add that any Christian that stays silent as other Christians tie themselves to that figure are also complicient. When you let those Christians speak for all Christians then I, as an atheist, can only assume you agree with them. And saying "those aren't real Christians" isn't enough.
