I'm very grateful to have secured a postdoc (and Career Development Fellowship) after my PhD, but these schemes were developed on the assumption that there was somewhere clear for people who had completed their postdoc to go to after, and there isn't now

We really need fellowships that are reserved for researchers in fixed-term employment more than 3 years post PhD.

Meanwhile the humanities are being decimated and not just in Nottingham though that is a particularly appalling situation. Sciences aren’t faring much better. This is one of our most successful sectors and Labour stands by while it falls to pieces. Why?

We don’t even have a proper minister in charge. The science minister seems to think humanities research isn’t within his purview. The universities minister thinks she’s the minister for students not research despite teaching being only half of what universities do. No one takes ownership.

This isn’t happening in isolation. 30k jobs lost across the sector. We are in crisis and govt response is to say ‘we have stabilised the sector’ which evidently isn’t true. Labour have betrayed the university sector and don’t even seem to care.
