Taken together, this is a substantial step forward, but only if followed through well. Earlier this year, @beckermax.bsky.social, @johannaflach.bsky.social and I developed a 4 stage model of EU cooperation with the third countries in defence. This could take the UK to stage 3.5. /ends

On first reading, the EU-UK Security and Defence Partnership sounds substantial, if (big IF here) it is filled with life. The basic principles are more coordination, regular institutionalised coordination and an ambition for several future supplementary agreements. Three points stand out:
