it's amazing that the government would intentionally withhold information and then say it's your fault if you die from not having that information. i bet that would never happen today and it definitely didn't happen with covid

They were not typically used by people who didn't have to worry about pregnancy, so there was pretty significant resistance among gay men, who also perceived it as shaming gay sex which was only recently decriminalized in much of the US at the time
