I remember seeing Andrew Ziminski (one of these authors) complain on Twitter about the conceptual vs figurative bias of the art school his child was attending. He didn't seem to have any insight into what has been going on in art schools. So he at least is an extreme trad, in terms of aesthetics.

I think the timing of the surge of church books has to with the digital and tangible craft: churches are handy time capsules containing decor and artefacts; they have age and atmosphere on their side, unlike screen-based experiences. & there's no curatorial nonsense, it's intellectually undemanding.
