325 #kakapo! The chicks from this year's record breeding season are now juveniles and so have been added to the population. In 1995 there were just 51 kākāpō left. Recovery of critically endangered species _is_ possible with sustained effort. #kakapo2026 #conservation #parrots

For years, one of the most common criticisms of #PlasticPollution research was that we could show harm to individual animals, but not to populations. Today, after 15 years of fieldwork, we finally have an answer. #IngestedPlastic reduces #seabird survival, and thus, can drive POPULATION decline

This is the result of 15 years of work. None of it supported by a big grant. Each field season happened on a shoestring (especially the early years) because we knew (we KNEW) something was happening. And the shearwaters' story had to be told.
