It was an extremely rewarding experience to fully supervise a student, who defended her BSc with excellent grade! We worked on the identification of Wolbachia from genomic data to explore infection in a butterfly family. Thanks a lot to @pavelmatosm.bsky.social for the guidance and help throughout!

Using a new phylogenomic approach, we found independent bursts of TE activity in the ancestors of the largest ant groups right around the K-Pg boundary, ~66 mya, just before each lineage diversified explosively. (Someone called our new method “Kimura on a tree”, which I think is a great name!) 🧵4/11
