In many ways, it feels like the epistemics of the models are getting way worse with increased RL -- they're super eager to solve, not eager to understand. Some older model, like GPT-4.5 and pre RL large models had a much better world model. I'm cautiously hoping Fable 5.5 helps solve some of this.

I’m curious whether we persist with the assumption that coding/explaining/brainstorming are all versions of the same process, or whether at some point we get—if not specialized models—then at least (say) an explore/exploit slider like the reasoning-level slider.

We're about to get a flood of breathless retrospectives on what AI did or didn't accomplish this election. They'll focus almost entirely on voter-facing slop, confidently declare which campaigns did and didn't use AI, and draw sweeping causal conclusions from what little they can see.
