And putting a GCD spell in the edges of it lets you see the rolling GCD cooldown if that also helps, its really nice for jobs like AST with very different ones at high spell speed builds to build muscle memory in your periphery

What about hiding the buttons without a cooldown or procs? I have all my hotkey hotbars with a toggle button so they become invisible when I get comfy w/ the job, and two hotbars dedicated to all the ogcd and cooldown buttons which are important to see at a glance near the center of the sceen
