(My mom would never be a Republican candidate. But there was a time in my life when I thought maybe I might possibly one day run for something as a Republican. Glad I didn’t. Mom would have still loved me. But that Thanksgiving plate would have come with a huge side of side eyes).

Twenty years ago, I was cheering on Republican candidates and was an enthusiastic culture warrior. Ten years ago, I thought Trump was an aberration and that both parties were about equally bad. Today, I am at the point where I wouldn’t vote Republican if my mom was the candidate. Still too risky.
