I know folks are actively working on disentangling "poor preservation vs actual missing AMELY" but afaik all that is in-process/based on an argument about general proteomic preservation, so would want to look at their results closely, especially if they're surprised by some individuals

From what I've heard (from folks who know better about this, doing the work on sheep): you can use the presence of AMELY to confirm male, but lack of AMELY does not confirm female (because of preservation).
