Needless to say, by what we know of Zazzel, Emilia was pretty fucked up at that point. That depression and trauma is also responsible for Zazzel adjusting to the circus so well upon entry. She was so desperate for a distraction, and that was it. 👍

That in turn infected the bone and was the ultimate reason for the amputation. So during recovery from the injury Emilia just had terrible luck. She was around 3-4 months post-surgery when "Zazzel" came to be. She was in a dark place and trying to navigate life with all the changes.

Last night I kind of talked more about how Emilia's arm was injured. Or more or less what ideas I originally had for it. While I don't NEED to explain what happened, I can say it's canon that the reason for the amputation was an infection. Her arm was infected post-injury which led to sepsis.
