El Niño is building in the Pacific, and our BGC-Argo floats are watching. As warm water cuts off the nutrient supply, phytoplankton shift deeper to find what they need to grow, particulate carbon drops, and there's less biomass to feed the rest of the food web. 🌊 #ElNiño @bgc-argo.bsky.social
