I think a similar graph inc NICs and child benefit loss for those at 60k+ would show a more interesting social effect - I don't think many have sympathy for those over £100k. The main takeaway is those earning just above a threshold should make good use of a pension.

If your ambition is for these cliff edges to exist, the solution is to get the majority of the population to stop moaning about tax. If your solution is a more efficient yet progressive tax system, you smooth the kinks out. Which will mean some pay less and others pay more
