My mother stayed with my father until he died, even though she knew he raped me, this is not at all uncommon. I did not have the mental strength to cut myself off from my parents until I had kids that I wanted to protect. My mother said it was how my father showed his love. Good luck to Sherrod.

I would bet good money that Dr. Actin’s mother was also abused when she was a young child. It’s is a common, tragic consequence of child sexual abuse. The victim becomes a parent and who lacks the capacity and insight to protect their own child. It’s like they are missing a brain chip.
