9yo just told me she’s “sungry” (sleepy and hungry) and if that isn’t the story of my life
Show PostNot surprised that this audit summary does not mention several major factors affecting the teaching effectiveness of faculty: that R1 faculty are mostly pressured to do research and bring in funding, not teach well, and that students come in with very low math and reading competencies.
Show PostBoth things I mentioned there are due to underfunding of K12 and higher ed, as well as conservative political interference and capital’s insistence on ransacking education for profit.
Show PostNo surprise that 2 year and primarily undergraduate 4 year institutions like mine have higher student satisfaction/better teaching: we’re paid to teach. But we also run into the student preparedness issues at higher rates.
Show PostAnd the way the winds are blowing, every legislative and administrative initiative is going to make good teaching even harder because they’re crafted by people who either don’t understand the challenges or maliciously want to restrict higher education to their favored classes.
