(Arguably, this is what Commodore are doing). And these low effort cash-ins on nostalgia end up driving away an audience who get excited, buy something 'cool' only to find out it's tat that holds their attention for barely a minute. They won't stick around for the good stuff.

Right now, it's easy to get a headline by picking some high profile nostalgic IP, throwing AI at it to port it or "upgrade" it in some minor way and then announcing it to bored news outlets. That completely sucks the oxygen out of the room for people who are putting in the effort for new projects.
