Yes, Machine Learning as a general technology has proven quite powerful and contributes to simulation, scientific research and even creative fields (in audio alone I use Stem Separation tools all the time) but LLMs? Generative models? The main thing they've added to the world is inherent distrust.

the main thing LLMs have contributed to the modern world are more elaborate fake search results, self-harm, broken code, security breaches and normalized paranoia that whomever you're talking to online might not be real. it is staggeringly difficult to name a positive contribution from these models
