Sometimes the best thing to do with heirlooms is use them. Take the train set out of the box and let your grandkids play with it. Use the fine china. It might break. Let the doll’s lace dress get dirty. Not all value comes from being untouched for eternity.

This whole thread made me think about archives and papers and that actually, what has value may not be the most impressive looking thing at all. In my archivist days came across people keeping leatherbound ledgers that looked very serious but were blank or very low-level admin records 1/2
