I was the main interviewee in this (flawed) New Yorker piece about parental estrangement. Just my experience, but took a decade of interpersonal strife before I cut anyone off. The last straw was my parents refusing to attend my wedding in 2021 because the venue had a covid vaccine requirement.

Love to Julia of @pillowfort.social for what I know is the hardest decision she's ever had to make. She did amazing for a very long time at a job that gets harder every year. www.pillowfort.social/posts/8413273

I sometimes get longer emails from readers but usually the thing they are talking about in those emails is THEMSELVES and what the book meant for THEM. Like "long story, but you helped me understand that my husband was abusive."

Thread, and yes, pretty much every word of this, re: authors being able to spot "AI" writing. I've noted before that if you see "AI" writing once, it looks reasonable. When you see a hundred times, it's exhausting in its sameness. I get dozens of "AI" come-ons in my email EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
