I'm a fairly introspective person - I do a lot of quiet reflecting/reconsidering of my own choices from various points of my life, and because of that, I'm not very inclined to blame outside forces for the broken parts of my own heart and mind. But I'd be a fool to discount how much AIDS broke me.

At the same time, my personal reluctance to engage with retrospective art about that era now is one reason that I've been incredulous at people complaining about the lack of art engaging with the worst years of COVID-19. I just can't imagine wanting to relive that.
