Show PostI’m older & wanted to join the foreign service when I graduated but felt I could not because I was gay & thus a security threat. But through activism & medical journalism, I eventually found myself working abroad & so much of this struck cords from travels w dog, to the plants, Ohio & mom w/dementia

Thank you for sharing. My father started at USAID in 1966. Most people had dogs but adopted from another family leaving a post. We were posted to Addis in 1976 when I was 10. Expulsions of Americans led to my father and I having to put their dogs down. It was beyond sad.
