The lack of information makes it really hard because no one wants to get flagged on a background check even if they eventually get passed through (which is something that can happen). It feels very high stakes and high stress which keeps lots of eligible people from applying.

I know about the standards issue bc I had to build a crosswalk of all the standards based on funding source and compliance/oversight agency and there is a lot in there to figure out. In general things are converging but there's also not a lot of info out there about the standards.

One of the major challenges is that there is no single set of background check standards that covers all publicly funded ECE employees even though one agency does all the checks. I think this is probably why it's hard to outsource to a third party vendor.
