yeah, but their $8000 "insurance" will be spent treating them, whereas some of the $2000 tax for healthcare might get spent on other people, maybe even immigrants or brown people! "Why should my tax dollars pay for other people's care?"

This seems to matter less to the Americans I've discussed this with than their explicitly stated principled refusal to ever contribute to their neighbour's daughter's hospital care. It's 'I'm for me and f++K you' even when that costs them four times as much as caring for their neighbours would. 🤯
