Very much enjoying the story of AI bros going to religious leaders and asking them to say that machines have souls, only to be told: a) no they obviously don’t and b) if they did then what the AI guys are doing is literally slavery and that would be BAD.

This is crucial! We have a choice as a society about whether we accept AI and its impact on truth and the environment! We don’t have to accept it We don’t have listen when they say “just let me finish…” We don’t have roll over We always have the ability to make ethical choices

We haven’t always chosen to embrace every new technology. And where new approaches and realities damage human worth (and in this case, create existential threat) we have every right to push back against the people who are trying to justify it. We’ve done it before and we will keep on doing it.

The equating of AI with the Ind Rev is actually instructive because that was another technological leap which stamped on human worth. It led to resistance in all kinds of places and the eventual securing of rights as a bulwark against its worst impacts.
