I say this has someone who came out of an Arabic/ Middle East studies program in the mid-2000s, and who found himself, 10 years later, working in both the Africa bureau + the near East bureau of the state department.
Show PostThere is, essentially, a very thin layer of people at the top who are committed to the status quo, and a very deep bench of dissenting folks waiting to replace them - or at least there were until this administration started purging the state department and USAID.
Show PostThis already happened with the general us foreign policy pool starting in the mid-200s after the invasion of Iraq. The state department has been full to the brim of people who are infuriated by presidential policies towards the Middle East.
