Yeah, I don't doubt Fred does not share most of his friend's views, but he needs to say it + cut ties with them for good financially and socially. But his 20 year old friendship with the ortho-bro artist blinds his judgement.

My take is that most or all people don't change, and he is unlikely to have his political opinions changed but only contained or hidden, people search to rationalize their political and moral intuitions to affirm their "I'm a good person" self-concept than to change them.
