Growing up in East Texas, we often went canoeing on Caddo Lake which is dominated by cypress trees hung with Spanish moss. One of the things you learn about quickly are the cypress knees, which are projections from the cypress roots that stick above water. (📷: Lynn McBridge, Nature Conservancy)
