Unbelievably brilliant: a full-fledged laugh riot bursting with sheer, unbridled cinematic craftsmanship and a potent reminder of everything the medium can be. A total scream, I am completely agog.

I worked at Best Buy during the holidays in 2005,6,7. Two facts: companies made special shitty versions of products (TVs, etc) to sell as extremely cheap “doorbusters.” The deals were fake. These products even had their own unique product codes, they looked like existing models but weren’t the same

The other fact is I’m pretty sure at least one person got literally trampled as people rushed through the door and it was in the news, but I’d have to look it up. What I can say is that it was a regular enough occurrence that you knew to be careful about it but, you know, it made the news

HOW DO YOU LIVE?: Miyazaki lets the absolute deluge of incident and spectacle hang even more loosely than usual, propelled by the rush of adventure; definitely can be bewildering but the core harmony between fantasy, family, and history is strong. Massive, mostly for the best.
