Yes - I think to synthesise we need to say "the UK has made a huge success of multiethnic society but that progress is threatened by a minority of extremists/racists, enabled/promoted by large sections of the media and outside forces.."

.. what we have is far from perfect but it deserves defending against those who want to take us backward either because they hate the UK/its people as it actually is, or because they have their own even more malign agenda...
