Ten years ago, I went to the ER. I had peritonitis and needed emergency surgery. The doctor in the ER who took care of me and moved quickly to save my life was the son of Mexican immigrants. The interventional radiologist who placed a drain in my abdomen as I was recovering was from Mexico.

I get CT scans every six months to make sure my lymphoma’s not trying to come back. It’s nice to get the results and see I’m still cancer-free, but the radiologist doesn’t need to keep going on and on in the report about how unremarkable I am.
