because you calibrated the graph at the beginning with those numbers together, all it takes is one drop or increase in the annual change of CPI to make it look as if everything subsequent is out of sync. but look at it. it's not

because the CPI is an annualized change, and every single one of those CPI numbers represents an increase, compared with the consumer attitudes which are a percentage. correlation is still pretty much one to one except for 2023 where the CPI increase was nowhere near as much as it was before.
