@bertranddelouis.bsky.socialSatellite images of the Panama earthquake show that the fault slipped up to 7 meters. That a lot! With that much slip, a two-lane road crossing the fault would be completely offset. This is a pretty remote area, so not so many roads, but field photos will surely be impressive. ⚒️ 🧪
Show Post⚒️ 🧪 One week has passed since the M7.5 earthquake in Venezuela. FUNVISIS has detected >600 aftershocks so far, concentrated in the east, near Caracas. New satellite imagery shows >3 meters of likely surface offset in the same area - perhaps explaining the aftershocks, and contributing to damage.
Show PostUsing open-source WISP (Goldberg et al., 2026) code and with help from Claude Opus 4.8, I did very preliminary finite fault inversion of 2026 Venezuela earthquake. Producing reasonably looking result took several iterations, but with very little effort of data-fetching.
Show PostSentinel-1 interferogram shows ~30 cm of coseismic deformation from #Venezuela's Mw7.2–7.5 #earthquake doublet. The interferogram compares Sentinel-1 acquisitions before (18 June) and after (25 June) the earthquake, revealing the coseismic deformation field with millimetre-scale precision.
