I presented research about small business collective action on January 23rd. The data show a simple partisan story: businesses in precincts with lower Trump support were more likely to participate and more politically expressive about that choice

But interviews complicate that a bit! Small business owners that I talked to had a tough choice to make in closing, but the severity of OMS, worker pressure, and coordination with other businesses altered the decision calculus—and in some cases led to ongoing participation in resistance to ICE.
