The issue isn't direct instruction as a tool, it's the deprofessionalization of teachers, of denying that expertise and experience matter, and of outsourcing all decision making to third party curriculum sellers.

Yes, I totally agree. I used reading and writers workshop for years and felt that they really complimented both direct instruction and phonics instruction. These hot take podcasts and articles are demeaning to the profession and demoralizing to those of us who worked hard to develop skills to teach
