@amannes.bsky.socialwhat science-fiction is there that presents very powerful sentient computers as essentially benevolent forces? off the top of my head, Metavac in Asimov, Minds in IMB, ships in Ancillary series, Thunderhead in Scythe, HER. Much more common when the AI is person-scaled (robots, in particular).
Show PostI despise science journalism based on preprints but if we’re using them then let’s use them. Here’s one showing Pangram is easily fooled. The numbers from that NBER preprint could be an order of magnitude in either direction. It isn’t a reliable measurement.
Show PostGuys: please don’t use a pre-print based on Pangram to make broad generalizations of an entire field. Pangram can be fooled by humanizers and has a high false-negative rate. We really can’t assume a high level analysis like this is accurate or not. It’s a sloppy blog method, not rigorous research.
Show PostIn 2016 we were ALSO talking about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and misinformation. People raise their eyebrows a lot when I call the 2022 push their “reinvasion” but I don’t see how that’s possibly inaccurate unless the military occupation and annexation of Crimea didn’t count as an invasion?
Show PostLiterally a decade. Here’s me writing about it in 2016.
