It’s a super disingenuous way of pointedly *not* saying something, but in a way that immediately brings to mind the thing that is explicitly not being said in the minds of anyone familiar with the broader context. Nobody who knows what a rodef is can read the column without thinking about that.

He carefully makes sure to give the accurate narrow definition of rodef, which can’t apply to Lewis, who isn’t about to imminently kill anyone, but, given that, there’s no reason to mention rodfim at all - unless one assumes one’s audience is familiar with Rabin’s killer’s distorted definition.
