Duck Hunt leverages the limitations of the NES and stacks up 40 extra sprites, ordered in front of the dog sprites, 5 per row, along the bottom right. This makes the NES unable to draw the dog sprites on those lines, since the NES can only draw 8 sprites per horizontal line. CRAZY!
Show PostHow does NES hide the bottom of the dog on this screen? Most games I've seen do this by turning off sprites on that line with a sprite 0 hit triggered write. However Duck Hunt does it with 0 writes to any hardware registers outside of vblank! Answer in thread!
