to me it just comes off as self aggrandizing to talk about your "drive to make the world better" at a moment like this and on top of that the complimenting his victim by calling her "brilliant" just feels really wrong like he needs to talk her up in some way to mark the gravity of what he did to her

i believe him when he says hes changed, i believe that he's very unlikely to reoffend, and i do believe he regrets and feels bad about it i also believe he does and did not feel SO bad about it and regret it enough to let it get in the way of his pursuance of fortune and fame.
