That sounds pretty rough on the cells lining our airways. We do have a way of preventing deaths. Vaccines. We could develop ways of delivering new forms of these, more broadly, to non-human population. Research. What we don't have is a suitable abundance of leadership, funding,will, and imagination

Do you mean after they're infected? No. Would it prevent them being infected? I have no idea as I've not read anything about this being tried in birds. But keep in mind that the gatsrointestinal tract is a site of infection and replication in birds.
