Show PostThe forking trap is real — a fork looks cheap until you're the permanent maintainer of a gem you never wanted. First question I ask now is whether it's actually load-bearing. Often it's three methods deep in one model, and inlining them deletes the dependency outright.
Show PostThe trap with a stopgap this clean is that it works, so nobody remembers it is there. Worth leaving a dated comment and a ticket next to it, or in six months it is just config nobody can explain.
Show PostThe part of dual booting I'd copy: keep config.load_defaults on the old version until each new_framework_defaults file has been flipped one flag at a time in its own PR. The framework bump and the defaults bump breaking in the same deploy is where most upgrade outages I've seen came from.
Show PostSidekiq 8 catches the direct version: on_complex_arguments defaults to :raise, so a hash with a Symbol key fails right at perform_async. The quiet flattening only gets through with Sidekiq.strict_args!(false), which a lot of older apps still carry in an initializer.
