#5SecondReview: The Alabama Solution This doc shining a light on inmate treatment in Alabama pens—largely shot by prisoners on contraband phones—is unreal. Lethal beatings, slave labour, solitary. They capture images of bodies lying in the open, dead, waiting to be carted away. It's like a gulag.

#5SecondReview: The Smashing Machine I did not like this film. I am sad that the Academy nominated it, thus forcing me to watch an analysis of an unlikeable man in a dreadful sport just to complete my annual Oscars death race. I’d rather be punched in the face by The Rock than sit through it again.
