All of that aside, any criticism of the film is forgotten when you have 17.000 extras on camera reenacting the Battle of Waterloo with real horses and gunpowder. It's jaw dropping. Who needs CGI when you have the Soviet Army in the production?

Saoirse commented that the nameless antiwar soldier should have been the emotional thread of the film and I can't agree more. It would have made his breakdown at Waterloo way more impactful rather than coming out of nowhere. The movie needs less meandering and more humanizing scenes like that.

Small nitpick but I would have swapped the order of the last two scenes. Very weird shot to end the film, and HOW COULD YOU MISS THE OPPORTUNITY to end the film with Wellington's maxim!! "The most sad thing, after a battle lost, is a battle won" That should be the final note of the film!

Love Boney's actor, hated his internal monologue. Love Wellington too, but I wish we had more scenes of him and his men. The Battle left me speechless of course, but to me it kinda lacks an emotional thread to make it really impactful. Also the editing annoys me.

1970s Waterloo is a bit of a shame, because it has the most astonishing cinematic battle ever filmed, while the whole movie surrounding it is just Okay.
