Like freshwater eels, congers were in demand in medieval London. Enough that, in 1300, ships importing congers got a waiver on customs fees. They did still have to pay 2 d. for strandage (docking & unloading). Plus, each ship had to give the water bailiff 2 of their best eels. 🗃️🧪
